Meet Eliza. Our New York Correspondent.

Hi Style and Space readers! My name is Eliza Smoothey and I am the new Content Creator and New York Correspondent for the Style and Space blog. (Hear excited squeals from Jade in the background)

I am currently splitting my time between Brisbane and the Big Apple, so get ready for plenty of New York blog posts in the future. I have been living in New York since January 2016 and love the culture, inspiration and creativity that it brings.

I grew up in Brisbane with my two sisters, parents and multiple cats. I always knew from an early age that I wanted to help people design their homes and had a passion for decorating. I can distinctly remember one day in grade 7 my teacher went around the class and asked everyone what they wanted to be when they grew up and I answered confidently ‘an Interior Designer’. Yes, at the time I thought this simply meant picking out pretty colours for people’s homes and was probably shocked to learn that there is a lot more paperwork involved. But hey, a girl can dream!

I had a brief stint at University with the hopes of becoming a nutritionist but I knew deep down that I wanted a career in the creative industry. I then studied Interior Design at CATC Design College in Brisbane and loved every minute of it. Since graduating I have worked in the industry helping people design their dream kitchens, selecting tiles for renovations and creating schemes for clients building new homes. I have also worked part time for myself doing complete interior design schemes and interior styling for people who need a little helping hand with putting items together and creating a cohesive home.

I have a passion for creating organised homes with smart storage solutions and plenty of personality. Living in a studio apartment in New York City has tested my design skills as it is very hard to make your home beautiful and tidy when your bed is one meter away from the kitchen sink. But I think I've succeeded and have definitely learnt a few tips and tricks along the way, which I look forward to sharing with you!
