This year I’ve set myself a challenge. My aim is to avoid buying any new clothes, and generally speaking, I’d just like to buy less stuff. I have lots of lovely things, and I’m planning on wearing and using them!
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see me being a dickhead taking outfit pics in alleyways around Brisbane City on the regular. I’m always wowing my workmates with bargain finds, so I thought I’d share my hottest op shopping spots around Brisbane. I have a special method I use to find the gold, but I will share that in another post.
For now, I just want to tell you, I REALLY love op shopping. Here’s why.
It’s giving the forks to the fast fashion industry
It’s a mental challenge
It’s supporting charities, and the environment.
The things you find are hilarious sometimes.
But it’s just so darn delightful when you find something good!
Vinnies, Mary St - This one is super popular with the CBD dwellers. Lucky for me, it’s right next to my workplace, so it makes it easy to check in regularly on the new items. They stock some amazing bargains in workwear - I have scored many a Jacqui E dress, and I think I cleaned them out of all the amazing jackets last winter!
Salvos, Red Hill - Make sure you allocate some time to this warehouse of treasure. They have a LOT of great stuff, and it takes some time to go through. I couldn’t tell you how many gems I’ve found - and I often drop my goods here too. It’s always a good idea to remove some things from your wardrobe to make space for new things.
RSPCA, Sherwood - I stumbled across this one, and was amazed at how organised they are! They have a lot of household items. I scored some cute storage boxes to assist me in Marie Kondo-ing my home. (For the second or third time... I was on to her amazingness long before the Netflix series!)
Yesterdays - These guys have locations near my home in Rosalie, Indooroopilly, and I’ve found some gold in the West End store too. NB the gorgeous Flora (vegan cafe) is across the road from that one, so make a Saturday morning of it!
Salvos Sinnamon Park - This one is hidden in a newish industrial estate, I stumbled across it the other day. I found some great clothes, and kids novels for just $1 each. Yay!
I’m really trying to minimise spending of any kind, and use what I have, but I’m committing to not buying new clothes this year. I’ve also been removing a lot of stuff from in my apartment in true KonMarie style… however it all moves downstairs to the garage, which is now chaotic! I will be having a garage sale, or some kind of clothes swap event, so stay tuned. Conscious living is where it’s at.
If you’d like some of my hottest tips about creating calm in your home for the beginning of the year, you can join me in the emails, and get a lovely little ebook I wrote a while ago. Would love to hear from you.
In any case, I hope you find a delightful second hand treat, feel free to share it with me! I love getting tags and emails about bargain finds. Happy op shopping!
