Christmas is creeping up on us so quickly! If you’ve forgotten you’re the hostess for this years festivities and have no idea how you’re going to style your dining table, don’t worry we’ve got you covered. There are endless amounts of themes you can go with for the Christmas table so we have narrowed it down to our favourites. A beautifully decorated table does not go unnoticed amongst guests and it shows how much you appreciate their presence on such a special day.
This theme is probably the most simple to create and looks effortlessly chic. Place a garland overflowing with greenery down the center of the table. You can either pre-order these from your favourite florist or simply head into your backyard and start foraging. Try and include some fragrant foliage that brings a lovely natural aroma to your space. Keep the rest of the table super simple, as you don’t want it to feel overwhelming. Use plates and dinnerware in neutral tones and add a few white candles in glass jars to create ambience. Linen napkins work great with this theme and if you want to take it one step further handwrite what food you are serving on some brown paper and sit it at each place setting. Add a playlist of acoustic songs with some laid back Christmas carols for a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Nothing says an ‘Australian Christmas’ like bright fun colours, warm sunshine, seafood and fresh Summer fruits. This theme is to reflect the carefree attitude we have towards December 25th in the Southern Hemisphere. Start by picking a few colours you would like to stick to throughout your theme and go from there. Create a focal point down the middle of the table by including a few or all of the following items; bright flowers, fresh fruit, succulents in cute pots, Christmas baubles and stylish bonbons. Make sure you have some room on your table to place the platters of food as a Summer Christmas is all about overflowing seafood plates, colourful salads and fresh fruit platters for everyone to share. As we always have a Pavlova for dessert why not decorate it like a traditional Christmas wreath using strawberries, cherries and mint? Have the Christmas tunes cranking and some champagne on ice to ensure you have a fabulous Summer’s day this Christmas!
A traditional Christmas theme is always welcome at the dinner table each year. If you are a Christmas enthusiast or there are plenty of children at your house on the big day then this theme is for you. Stick to a colour scheme of red, white and green with pops of metallic. This theme is usually accompanied by a big Christmas roast so make it feel slightly more formal by having red and white striped napkins rolled up with a sprig of rosemary at each place setting. Always include some Christmas whimsy by having reindeer, Santa or Christmas tree decorations lining your table. Also, sprinkle some mini stars down the center and light some candles to create the ultimate festive atmosphere.
The festive season is all about sparkle so why not bring it into your table styling as well as your party frock? Metallics are everywhere at the moment in homewares so this theme should be an easy one to create this Christmas. Start with a white tablecloth and layer a gold or silver table runner down the center. Use plates, serve ware and cutlery in different metallic hues for a decadent look. There are plenty of DIY activities on Pinterest you can find if you’d like to get creative with this theme. A favourite of mine is spray-painting pinecones in silver and gold! This look is all about layering so make sure you’ve got plenty of silver and gold accessories to jazz up the table and you’re all sorted for Christmas dinner.
