A new photographic print series from Style + Space.
“This series of prints is about the process of mindfully slowing down, accepting the imperfect, and appreciating the present. While shooting with film, you have to slow down, look around, and be deliberate about what you’re doing. Focused on creating unedited photographic prints that flaunt their imperfections, these images represent the simplicity of life we all crave... or long to have back again.”
Intentional living is a strong underpinning value to the work of Jade Goulding, Creative Director at Style + Space. She wants you to be happy in your space, not living in someone else’s style, or amongst belongings you don’t enjoy. This new series of prints expresses the importance of this value, through capturing simple moments on vintage cameras.
Life is busy, full, hectic, crazy, and only increasingly so. Film photography is something that helps her to slow down, gain some head space, and be really deliberate and mindful in the moment. With a love for creating, namely artwork, photos, spaces, this series As Is presents several things that are important to her and her work.
“As much as I love being busy, I need to slow down. Discovering film photography has helped my mental health in this way, and I try to make time for it regularly.”
“These photos are completely unedited. They have been scanned from the film they were captured on, into digital format so they can be printed large at the best possible quality. They have weird colours, lens flare, and haze, and they flaunt it. It’s part of what they are, and this is something I am working on too. Embracing the imperfections.”
Owning your past in a present day moment.
We bring our experiences and past stories into our present moment every single day. We can be proud of our imperfect stories, and enjoy just being here now.
Jade is not the only one who has created these images, her talented friend Amy Kemp has a collection of over 50 film cameras, and it was her that inspired her into the beauty of capturing life on 35mm. Her works BNE Mnml, and Twins were chosen by Jade to add into the collection because they brought a completeness, and Amy’s influence has played a major part in this journey. The subject matter of this particular series is all local to Brisbane and surrounds, emphasising the point that we can slow down and really appreciate our immediate environment.
The allure and charm of film photography is the unpredictable colour, the waiting time to see the end result, and the slow and experimental nature of the process, and this medium has been so pivotal in the journey of 2016.
Printed on art quality archival cotton rag paper, signed and number as limited editions of 20 per size of each image.
